Yahaya Bello Returns to EFCC Amid Ongoing Corruption Probe
Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has once again appeared before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with allegations of fund misappropriation.
Sources within the EFCC confirmed that Bello attended the commission’s office on Tuesday, accompanied by his legal team. Contrary to earlier speculation, the current Governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo, did not accompany him.
This follows a recent Supreme Court ruling that upheld the constitutionality of the EFCC’s anti-corruption mandate. According to eyewitness accounts, Bello drove himself to the EFCC office in a black Hilux vehicle.
Speculation about Bello’s visit to the EFCC had circulated last week, but his media aides declined to comment on the matter.
At a prior hearing on 14 November, the EFCC had requested an adjournment in the fresh case it filed against Bello, citing the 30-day window for the summons to take effect. The next hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, 27 November.
Meanwhile, Bello’s co-defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, have been granted administrative bail. The EFCC has also sought an extension of time for the former governor to comply with the court summons.
This visit marks another chapter in Bello’s ongoing legal challenges with the anti-graft agency.
