Big Budget, Big Questions: Tinubu’s ₦1.48trn Plan for Rivers

President Bola Tinubu has submitted the 2025 Appropriation Bill for Rivers State to the National Assembly, following the suspension of the state’s House of Assembly.

In a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu presented a proposed budget totalling ₦1.481 trillion, with significant allocations targeting infrastructure and key public services.

The proposed budget earmarks ₦324 billion for infrastructure, ₦106 billion for health (including ₦5 billion for free malaria medication), ₦75.6 billion for education, and ₦31.4 billion for agriculture.

According to the document, the spending plan aims to create approximately 6,000 new jobs through strategic investments across these sectors.

The Senate has referred the budget proposal to its Ad-hoc Committee on Emergency Rule for review, with a directive to report back promptly.
