NCAA and ICAO Forge Civil Aviation MasterPlan Agreement

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has joined hands with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) by signing the Civil Aviation MasterPlan (CAMP) agreement in Montreal, Canada. The Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Capt. Musa Nuhu, confirmed this significant milestone in a statement released on Wednesday in Lagos.

CAMP is an initiative designed for senior and middle managers of State Civil Aviation Authorities (CAAs) to address the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, in line with relevant ICAO guidelines.

Nuhu emphasized that the collaboration with ICAO aims to unleash the full potential of the aviation sector, making substantial contributions to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This partnership will create numerous direct and indirect job opportunities for skilled Nigerians across various domains.

The DGCA stressed the pivotal role the aviation sector plays in national development through air travel and asserted that Nigeria, as Africa’s largest economy, must not remain isolated from global advancements.

“CAMP is a strategic process that encompasses short, intermediate, and long-term development goals, implementing policy directives to drive transformative change. The civil aviation masterplan will be instrumental in stimulating industry growth, catalyzing the national economy,” Nuhu explained.

He further pointed out that many countries heavily rely on aviation for economic prosperity, citing Dubai’s development with Emirates as a global brand as a prime example.

To ensure comprehensive development in the aviation sector and throughout Nigeria, Nuhu affirmed that all relevant stakeholders within and outside the ecosystem would be actively involved in the process.
