The Lagos State Police Command has officially confirmed the detention of Balogun Eletu, widely recognized as Sam Larry, a prominent music promoter. This development is a crucial part of the ongoing investigation into the untimely demise of Afrobeats artist Mohbad.

This confirmation was provided by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Nigerian Police Public Relations Officer, through his official social media account on Thursday. Hundeyin stated, “Balogun Olamilekan Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, is now in our custody, actively participating in the ongoing investigation.”

The decision to take Sam Larry into custody follows closely on the heels of Naira Marley’s declaration, less than 24 hours prior, expressing his willingness to return to Nigeria to assist with the investigation. Naira Marley made this commitment amid allegations and speculations concerning his involvement in the tragic death of Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Aloba.

Public attention has intensified on Sam Larry due to the emergence of past social media posts by the late singer, which have raised questions and concerns. While SP Benjamin Hundeyin did not provide specific details about the circumstances of Sam Larry’s arrest, online reports suggest that he was apprehended upon his arrival at the airport.

In addition to Sam Larry, there have been calls for the arrest of Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley. This call for action is based on alleged conflicts between Naira Marley and the late Mohbad, who had severed ties with Marlian Records in 2022 amidst less-than-amicable circumstances.

Responding to these allegations, Naira Marley released a statement on Tuesday asserting his commitment to proving his innocence and cooperating with the authorities to clear his name, substantiated by sufficient evidence.

The police inquiry commenced last week with an autopsy conducted on Mohbad. Law enforcement authorities have pledged to meticulously investigate the circumstances surrounding the singer’s tragic passing.
