“Mosquito vs. Lion”: Portable Knocks Out Speed Darlington Amid Theatrics

Controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, defeated his rival Darlington Okoye, aka Speed Darlington, in a widely anticipated celebrity boxing match tagged “Chaos in the Ring.”

The match, held on Saturday morning at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, marked the climax of several weeks of online altercations between the two entertainers.

Both artistes demonstrated considerable energy and footwork as fans cheered them on. Portable, however, displayed superior boxing skills and ultimately won by technical knockout (TKO).

In viral footage of the bout, the pair were seen exchanging punches in the first round. But the 31-year-old Portable was declared the winner after Speed Darlington failed to return for the second round. The referee ended the match, declaring Portable the undisputed victor.

Speed Darlington, whose right wrist was visibly bandaged after the fight, was escorted out of the arena amid speculation that he had sustained a fracture.

The bout followed weeks of online feuding, with both artistes exchanging taunts and threats in the lead-up. Portable described himself as a “lion” and dismissed his opponent as a “mosquito.” At one point, organisers had to restrain the visibly enraged Portable during a pre-fight face-off.

Speed Darlington, in return, issued death threats and boasted that he would “kill Portable, bury him in a coffin, and seize his championship belt.” He urged fans to ignore the hype and let the ring settle the matter.

After the match, Speed Darlington shared a video thanking the promoter, Adamu, for the opportunity. “Last night, I was going in. This is my first time, his second time, and I’m very proud of myself,” he said. He later claimed a shoulder dislocation during the fight, although he denied feeling fatigued. He also suggested that Portable may have used traditional charms to influence the outcome.

The feud reportedly began after Speed Darlington offered Portable ₦500,000 to perform at his show—an offer Portable publicly rejected, branding Darlington as “poor” and asserting that his appearance fee stood at ₦20 million.

Adding to the theatrics, Darlington visited a coffin shop a day before the fight, allegedly to purchase a “shiny” casket as a symbolic gesture aimed at his opponent.

Their rivalry dates back to May 2024 when Darlington mocked Portable over his arrest for defaulting on a ₦27 million Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon payment. Darlington ridiculed Portable’s attempted escape over a fence, labelling him a “fake life” artiste and declaring, “I’m a star. Portable is not a star.”
