Governor Eno Hints at Leaving PDP Amid Internal Crises

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has hinted at a possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the party as a “faulty aircraft” that may no longer take him to his next political destination.

While he did not name a potential new party, Eno’s remarks come amid a wave of defections from the PDP, the latest being Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who recently joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing a large crowd at a Town Square meeting in the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam federal constituency, Eno stated, “If you were about to fly with Ibom Airline and it developed a fault that made it unfit to fly, wouldn’t you board the next available plane to your destination?”

He described the PDP as fragmented and warned it might soon collapse entirely.

Despite his comments, Eno urged the people to continue supporting his administration, assuring them of ongoing efforts to fulfil campaign promises. At the event held at QIC Central School, Ikot Akpankuk, he distributed empowerment packages to over 400 residents, including business grants, vehicles, and other items.

He advised beneficiaries to use the support wisely and avoid investing in Ponzi schemes or unrelated ventures.

“We must engage with the people beyond election seasons—to listen, provide feedback, and integrate your needs into the governance process,” the governor said. “This is the fourth federal constituency we’ve visited; we plan to cover the remaining six so that relevant requests can be included in the 2026 budget.”

Meanwhile, the PDP’s National Working Committee, following its Tuesday meeting, appointed Architect Setonji Koshoedo as the party’s acting National Secretary.

In response to Eno’s comments, former PDP National Chairman Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje dismissed suggestions that the APC had already secured a 2027 victory, stressing that politics is a game of aspirations, not certainties.
