35 and Flying: Osimhen’s Historic Night Seals Galatasaray Glory

Victor Osimhen made history on Wednesday night, scoring twice to lead Galatasaray to a 3–0 victory over Trabzonspor in the Turkish Cup final and break a two-decade-old goal-scoring record.

With 33 goals already this season, the Nigerian striker needed just two more to surpass the record of 34 goals in a single season by a foreign player—set by Brazil’s Mario Jardel in the 2000–01 campaign.

He delivered in style, netting in the 46th and 63rd minutes to take his tally to 35 goals in 38 appearances.

Baris Yilmaz had given Galatasaray the lead in the fifth minute, but the night belonged to Osimhen. His first goal was a low strike from the edge of the box; the second, a masterful turn and curled finish into the top corner.

The brace also elevated Osimhen on Galatasaray’s all-time list of foreign scorers, putting him above Jardel though still behind club legends such as Gheorghe Hagi, who tops the chart with 72 goals.

This triumph marked Galatasaray’s 19th Turkish Cup title, and with one game left, they are now poised to secure a domestic double. A win against Kayserispor on Sunday would confirm their 25th league championship and their first double since 1999.
