‘Chief Culprit’ – Wike Points Fingers as PDP Rift Widens
The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened on Sunday as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, formally withdrew from all reconciliation agreements previously reached within the opposition party.
In a personally signed statement, the former Rivers State governor blamed Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for the persistent divisions, accusing him of reneging on key agreements. He described Makinde as the “chief culprit” behind the party’s internal instability.
Wike also accused Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, and other senior party figures of betrayal, dishonesty, and repeated violations of mutual understandings.
Tracing the origins of the PDP’s internal rift to the aftermath of the 2023 general elections, Wike vowed to continue his political struggle until justice is achieved.
“I made it clear to His Excellency, the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, that he is the architect of our problems. The failure to honour agreements is the root cause of the PDP’s troubles, and he is the prime offender,” Wike stated.
Wike, a leading member of the influential G5 group, said the sabotage of reconciliation efforts by trusted allies had left him with no choice but to disengage.
