Fubara: Reconciliation with Wike Done in Interest of Rivers’ Peace

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has affirmed that no sacrifice is too great in the quest for peace, stability, and progress in the state.

Addressing supporters in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Fubara reassured them that every decision he has made—including the recent reconciliation with his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike—was in their collective interest.

He acknowledged the anxiety and disappointment among loyalists following the peace deal, but emphasised that difficult times require courageous decisions and concessions.

The governor clarified that the reconciliation was not undertaken unilaterally. “At every stage, we consulted with critical stakeholders and trusted allies within our political family,” he said.

Fubara conceded that the new political realities may be difficult for some to accept, especially those who stood firmly with him during the crisis. However, he stressed that the overarching objective remains the restoration of peace and stability in Rivers State.

He lamented the adverse impact of the political impasse on governance, noting that several development projects had been stalled. Nonetheless, he expressed optimism that with the reconciliation process underway, the pace of implementation would soon improve.

Addressing the political tensions trailing the peace accord, the governor acknowledged Wike’s pivotal role in his emergence as governor. He said that political history could not be erased and urged his supporters to demonstrate loyalty and trust in his leadership, even in the absence of immediate political rewards.

Fubara also revealed that President Bola Tinubu had personally intervened, instructing both parties to reconcile for the sake of Rivers State.

In a passionate appeal, he called on all those who believe in his leadership and vision to embrace peace and allow the state to heal and advance.
