BoT on the Move: Police Siege Forces PDP to Change Venue
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday relocated its Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting from Wadata Plaza, the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, to the Yar’Adua Centre in the Central Business District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following a police blockade.
In a statement issued via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the PDP announced: “The meeting of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), earlier scheduled to hold by 10 a.m. at the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, has been moved to Yar’Adua Centre, Central Business District, Abuja.”
The party directed all BoT members to proceed to the new venue and condemned the presence of heavily armed FCT police officers at its headquarters, describing the move as harassment.
Police officers reportedly barred BoT members—including senior figures such as Maina Chiroma—from accessing the secretariat, prompting widespread concern among party stakeholders.
A former PDP National Secretary, Umar Tsauri, told Channels Television that the police cited “orders from above” as the reason for their actions.
The visibly displeased BoT members eventually departed the premises amid heightened tension linked to the ongoing leadership crisis and the disputed scheduling of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, also set for Monday.
