Fiery cleric and former presidential aspirant, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has declared that Nigeria is at a moral and political crossroads, calling for a “revolution of values” rather than cosmetic reforms.

Speaking during his sermon on Sunday at The Citadel Global Community Church in Lagos, Bakare said the current system was not broken but deliberately designed to fail the people.

In the sermon titled “A Disgrace to Grace,” Bakare warned that Nigeria’s political structure is unsustainable, rooted in corruption, tribalism, injustice, and impunity.

“The system is not broken—it was designed to fail. No amount of patchwork reform will save us. Nigeria needs a complete overhaul—a value revolution,” he declared.

Bakare decried the culture of rewarding criminality while silencing men and women of integrity, stating, “This country is bleeding. It is governed by people far from justice and righteousness. A nation that rewards looters and punishes truth-tellers cannot survive.”

He emphasised that the revolution must be one of conscience, not arms.

“This is not a call to violence, but to a new way of thinking—a shift from selfish ambition to selfless service. We need visionary, righteous, and competent leaders.”

Bakare also criticised the Church, accusing religious leaders of compromising their prophetic roles in exchange for access to power.

“How can we claim to represent Christ and stay silent in the face of wickedness?” he asked. “The Church must lead the value revolution.”

He argued that true transformation must begin within—through a revival of moral values, civic responsibility, and principled leadership.

“No constitution or election can save us unless we realign our national values with justice, equity, and truth,” he said. “The hour has come. The old order must give way. We cannot build a great nation on lies, greed, and oppression. The soul of Nigeria is at stake.”
