Retired But Not Forgotten: Police Pension Protest Meets Top Brass

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, met with retired police officers protesting against the contributory pension scheme (CPS) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday.

The meeting took place at the Peacekeeping Hall following protests earlier that day by elderly retired officers at the National Assembly, where they demanded to be exempted from the CPS. Some of the retirees also staged a demonstration at the Force Headquarters, braving the rain while holding placards and chanting anti-government slogans.

Addressing the protesters, the IGP acknowledged their grievances and assured them that the welfare of retired police personnel remains a priority. However, he clarified that exiting the CPS is a complex legal process that cannot be implemented immediately.

Egbetokun also cautioned the protest leaders against spreading misinformation, emphasising that the Nigeria Police Force would not abandon its retired officers.
