Chelle Unveils Final Super Eagles B Squad for CHAN 2024
Head Coach of the home-based Super Eagles, Eric Chelle, has unveiled his final 23-man squad for the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN), including team captain Junior Nduka, striker Godwin Obaje, and defender Sikiru Alimi.
Also selected for the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from 2 to 30 August, are goalkeeper Henry Ozoemena Ani, defenders Sodiq Ismaila and Stephen Mayo, midfielders Hadi Haruna and Alex Oyowah, and forwards Anas Yusuf and Ijoma Anthony.
The team is scheduled to depart Nigeria on Thursday evening aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Zanzibar, where they will participate in a second-phase training camp from 26 to 31 July, organised by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). The squad has been preparing at the Remo Stars Sports Institute in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State.
The NFF has also arranged two friendly matches between the Super Eagles B and the Zanzibar senior national team—on Monday and again on Thursday, 31 July.
Nigeria, who won bronze in 2014 and finished as runners-up in 2018, are placed in Group D of the 19-nation tournament alongside reigning champions Senegal, Sudan, and Congo.
The Eagles will open their CHAN campaign against Senegal at the Amman Stadium in Zanzibar, followed by a clash with Sudan at the same venue. Their final group match against Congo will be played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
