“We’ll Support Whoever Emerges”: Amaechi Speaks on ADC Flagbearer, Nigeria’s Hunger Crisis

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has pledged that leaders of the opposition coalition will support whoever emerges as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general elections.

Amaechi made this statement on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, during a media briefing. He expressed confidence in the transparency of the ADC’s primary election process.

“The moment anybody emerges from the primary, all of us will support; that’s the agreement,” he said.

Amaechi, a former Rivers State governor and ex-chieftain of the APC, also condemned the current levels of hunger and hardship in the country. He called on residents of Rivers State to register with the ADC and vote out the ruling APC in 2027.

“Every Rivers man who thinks good of the state and the country should join the ADC and help end the suffering caused by the current administration,” he said.

The ADC has been adopted by a coalition of prominent opposition leaders to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid. Notable figures in the coalition include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, former Senate President David Mark, and former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

At the unveiling of the coalition on 2 July, interim chairman David Mark described the alliance as an effort to save Nigeria’s democracy from becoming a one-party system.
