Ribadu, CDS Outline Security Gains Under Tinubu Administration
The Federal Government has outlined key achievements in its fight against insecurity since President Bola Tinubu took office, with National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu and Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen. Christopher Musa highlighting significant gains.
Speaking in Kaduna during a two-day interactive session on government-citizen engagement, Ribadu described the security situation prior to May 29, 2023, as dire, with bandits, Boko Haram, and separatist groups wreaking havoc across the country.
He said bandits had previously controlled parts of the North-Central region, regularly carrying out killings and village attacks. However, coordinated efforts have led to significant improvement, including in Kaduna State, which Ribadu said is now “about 80 per cent free” of banditry.
He credited President Tinubu for fostering inter-agency collaboration, stating that all security agencies now operate as a unified force, alongside governors and community leaders. Ribadu also noted a marked improvement in crude oil production, which has risen to 1.9 million barrels per day.
“We’ve neutralised many criminal elements. Communities previously under siege now enjoy relative peace. However, challenges remain, and we continue to act swiftly,” he said.
CDS Musa reaffirmed the military’s commitment to eradicating threats across the country. He called for increased community collaboration and youth engagement to prevent recruitment into criminal groups. Musa acknowledged the challenges posed by Nigeria’s porous borders and urged communities to report suspicious activity.
“Our security approach is built on professionalism, collaboration, and engagement. We will continue until peace is restored nationwide,” he said.
