Nigeria’s women’s basketball team has secured a historic fifth straight AfroBasket title after defeating Mali 78–64 in the final match of the 2025 tournament in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

With the victory, the Nigerian team extended its unbeaten run in the competition to 29 games, dating back to a third-place finish in the 2015 tournament in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Despite a sluggish start, Coach Rena Wakama’s squad responded strongly in the second quarter, levelling the game 41–41 at half-time. Nigeria then took control in the third quarter, capitalising on Mali’s turnovers to establish a 61–56 lead.

Mali attempted a comeback in the final quarter, but Nigeria remained composed, responding to each Malian attack and maintaining a consistent lead until the final buzzer.

The win cements Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s basketball, making them the most successful team in the competition’s history in terms of consecutive titles.

In the third-place match, debutants South Sudan narrowly edged Senegal 66–65.
