FG: Trans-Saharan Superhighway to Boost Economy, Link Regions

The Federal Government has said the Calabar–Ebonyi section of the Trans-Saharan Superhighway will open new economic opportunities, strengthen regional integration, and improve connectivity across the country once completed.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this known on Friday during an inspection of the ongoing 118-kilometre project in Abakaliki. He was accompanied by senior officials and media executives.

The road, being built by Infouest Nigeria Ltd at a cost of ₦445 billion, features a rigid concrete pavement. It also includes a 700-metre, 12-span bridge designed to resolve perennial flooding in the N’dibe Beach area and restore access to affected communities.

Idris described the superhighway as “one of the signature projects” of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“When completed, this highway will link Calabar, Ebonyi, Benue, Nasarawa, and Abuja, unlocking economic opportunities, boosting regional integration and fostering prosperity,” the minister said.

He added that Ebonyi State was, for the first time, hosting multiple major federal projects simultaneously, which demonstrated the administration’s commitment to equitable national development. Idris urged contractors to maintain quality and speed up delivery.

The minister and his delegation are also touring other federal projects in Enugu and Ebonyi as part of a wider citizens’ engagement drive in the South-East.
