APC Endorses Tinubu but Leaves 2027 Presidential Ticket Open

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term but said party stalwarts may still contest its 2027 presidential ticket.

Speaking at the APC national secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, the party’s National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, confirmed the leadership’s decision to back Tinubu, citing his performance and economic policies.

He said the National Working Committee (NWC), the Hope Uzodinma-led Progressives Governors’ Forum, and the Godswill Akpabio-led National Assembly leadership had all thrown their weight behind the president.

However, Argungu stressed that the APC would not shut its doors to other aspirants.

“The aspiration of the people will be the wish of the party. While we have endorsed President Tinubu, the door remains open. When the time comes, we will publish the timetable, and any member wishing to contest may do so. No one will be denied the right to purchase forms,” he said.

Argungu explained that Tinubu deserved a second term because of his performance in governance, but clarified that the APC would not emulate the PDP’s 2014 sole-candidacy policy for Goodluck Jonathan.

Celebrating the party’s recent electoral victories—securing 13 out of 16 contested seats—Argungu said the outcome reflected Nigerians’ confidence in the APC.

“These victories show the resilience of our party and the trust Nigerians continue to place in us,” he added.
