Former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi are among southern politicians being considered by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 presidential election.

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State revealed this on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

He described Jonathan as “the most celebrated politician today,” recalling that although the former president faced political blackmail ahead of the 2015 elections, he was later cleared by the courts.

Mohammed also said that Obi, who ran as Labour Party’s presidential candidate in 2023, could be offered the ticket if he decided to return to the PDP.

“Certainly, President Jonathan is one of the candidates we are considering if he chooses to run. And even Governor Obi, because if he comes to a stronger platform where there are no encumbrances, he will be given the opportunity,” Mohammed said.

He added that the party was also open to other aspirants from the South, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi.

The governor emphasised that the PDP was courting prominent politicians who could add value to the party ahead of 2027.

The PDP’s National Executive Council had earlier resolved to zone its presidential ticket to the South while retaining the national chairmanship in the North.
