NFF to Decide Eric Chelle’s Future, Says NSC Boss
The National Sports Commission (NSC) has said that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will determine the future of Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, amid concerns over the team’s poor performance in the ongoing World Cup qualifiers.
NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko made this known on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday.
“Eric Chelle is the responsibility of the NFF to decide,” he said. “At the end of the day, after they finish their analysis, they will recommend to us. We will then review it—approve, disapprove, or engage as necessary.”
Dikko noted that Nigeria’s chances of qualifying remain slim. “When we came in, the team had only three points from a possible 12. With Chelle and the NFF, we now have eight points from the next four games. If we had secured these results earlier, we could have been preparing for qualification,” he said.
He emphasised that the team’s fate is no longer in the commission’s hands: “Based on the numbers, it’s out of our hands. All we can do is win our next two games and hope results elsewhere go in our favour. Football is unpredictable—anything can happen.”
The NSC chairman also stressed that the government has provided maximum support. “For the last game, the NSC chartered a flight, covered hotel costs, and paid player bonuses,” he said.
