4,000kg of Jollof: Chef Hilda Baci Cooks Her Way into Guinness Records Again

Nigerian chef Hilda Baci has set another Guinness World Record, this time for cooking the largest pot of jollof rice in Lagos.

Baci, who first gained international fame in May 2023 with her 100-hour cook-a-thon, achieved the latest feat in partnership with Gino Nigeria on 13 September 2025. She prepared 4,000 kilogrammes of jollof rice—equivalent to about 200 bags of Basmati rice—in a 22,619-litre pot measuring six metres wide and six metres tall. The process lasted about nine hours.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Guinness World Records confirmed the achievement on Monday in a post on X: “New record: Largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice – 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.”

Baci had initially planned to cook 5,000 kilogrammes (250 bags of rice) but scaled back to 200 bags due to weighing constraints. Guinness rules required strict adherence to ingredient measurements and output, with organisers ensuring no food was wasted.

The event doubled as a cultural festival, drawing food vendors, entertainers, and thousands of spectators. Nollywood stars and influencers, including Funke Akindele, Bamike Olawunmi-Adenibuyan, Enioluwa Adeoluwa, and Tomike Adeoye, were among those who joined in the celebrations.

Reflecting on the challenge, the 28-year-old chef said: “I didn’t realise it would be this hard. It’s been a challenge, a lot of hard work, but really satisfying to achieve the record. This achievement also belongs to the people of Nigeria as they all contributed.”
