EFCC Presents More Documents in Dasuki’s ₦33.2bn Fraud Trial

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday tendered additional documents as evidence in the ongoing trial of former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd.), and three others before an Abuja High Court.

Dasuki is facing a 32-count amended charge bordering on criminal breach of trust, dishonest release, and receipt of public funds totalling ₦33.2 billion.

Others standing trial are former NNPC General Manager, Mr. Aminu Baba-Kusa, and two firms — Acacia Holdings Limited and Reliance Referral Hospital Limited.

The EFCC alleged that between October 2014 and April 2015, Dasuki authorised the release of about ₦10 billion in foreign currencies from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) account at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), partly to fund the 2014 presidential primary of the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

At the resumed hearing, prosecution witness Mr. Adariku Michael, an EFCC detective, told the court that the agency had received an intelligence report on September 21, 2015, alleging abuse of office and money laundering.

He said the report was assigned to a special task force led by ACE Halimah Kazeem, which subsequently wrote to the CBN requesting account records.

Michael testified that substantial sums were transferred from the ONSA account to various individuals and companies, and that responses from the CBN and commercial banks were tendered as exhibits.

Counsel for the defendants — Mr. A. A. Usman (for Dasuki), Mr. Solomon Umoh, SAN (for Baba-Kusa and Acacia Holdings), and Mr. A. O. Ayodele (for Reliance Referral Hospital) — reserved their objections, agreeing with the prosecution’s suggestion to review the documents in advance to ensure smooth proceedings.

Justice Charles Agbaza adjourned the case to November 11 for continuation of hearing.
