“Let Them Speculate”: Wike Keeps Mum on Rivers Reconciliation Terms

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said he will not disclose the details of the recent peace agreement with suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, stating that what matters most is the return of peace to the state.

Speaking during a media chat on Thursday at his Abuja residence, Wike said he preferred to let people speculate about the terms of the truce.

“I will allow you to speculate, it’s not my business. All I know is that peace has come,” he said. “If you’re not satisfied with that, there’s nothing I can do. What is important is that peace has returned; whatever anyone says is not my concern.”

Wike alleged that some individuals had turned the Rivers State crisis into a personal revenue stream and are now unhappy with the reconciliation between him and Fubara.

Last month, President Bola Tinubu hosted a peace meeting involving Wike, Fubara, and the suspended members of the Rivers State House of Assembly in a bid to end the prolonged political conflict in the oil-rich state.

The political standoff stemmed from a rift between Wike and Fubara, his former protégé, over control of political structures in the state. Tensions escalated when Assembly members loyal to Wike, led by Martin Amaewhule, initiated impeachment proceedings against the governor.

In March 2025, Tinubu suspended Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the State Assembly. He subsequently appointed retired naval officer Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd) as the sole administrator of the state, in a controversial bid to restore order.
