Rowdy Session in Reps Over Motion to Summon Tinubu
The House of Representatives descended into a rowdy session on Wednesday during deliberations on a motion concerning the poor implementation of the national budget and delays in the release of funds to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
The motion, sponsored by Hon. Mascot Ikwechegh, who represents a constituency in Abia State, sought to address concerns over the slow pace of budget implementation and the impact of delayed funding on government operations.
A key prayer of the motion called on President Bola Tinubu to appear before the House to explain the issues surrounding budget implementation and the disbursement of funds. The proposal, however, sharply divided lawmakers, with members opposed to the request repeatedly chanting, “Sit down,” as colleagues spoke in support of it.
The heated exchanges disrupted proceedings and triggered a prolonged debate that lasted for about 30 minutes.
At the conclusion of the deliberations, the Speaker of the House, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, ruled the motion out.
Abbas explained that the prayers presented on the floor differed from those contained in the version originally submitted by the sponsor, describing the changes as a deviation from the approved text.
