Burna Boy Tops Chartmasters’ List of Africa’s Best-Selling Artistes
Grammy Award-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has been ranked Africa’s best-selling artiste after recording 14.46 million Equivalent Album Sales (EAS), according to global music data platform, Chartmasters.
The development was announced by Nigerian music news platform, The Debut Hub, in a post on its official X handle, @thedebuthub, citing data released by Chartmasters.
The post read:
“JUST IN! Burna Boy returns as the No. 1 best-selling African artiste of all time with 14.46 MILLION Equivalent Album Sales globally.
“It covers studio albums, other LPs (including compilations), physical singles, digital singles, and streaming (album track equivalents).”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Equivalent Album Sales (EAS) is a standardised music industry metric that combines physical and digital album purchases, singles, downloads, and streaming activity into a single measurement of album sales.
The metric enables direct comparisons between traditional album purchases and music consumption through digital downloads and streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music.
According to Chartmasters, Burna Boy’s 14.46 million equivalent album units were generated through a combination of album sales, physical and digital singles, and streaming equivalents, rather than album purchases alone.
The ranking marks another significant milestone for the Port Harcourt-born artiste, who emerged as one of Africa’s leading global music stars following the international success of his 2018 hit single, Ye.
Burna Boy has since released several commercially successful projects, including African Giant (2019) and Love, Damini (2022), both of which rank among the most-streamed African albums on Spotify.
Beyond recorded music, he has earned international acclaim for his touring success, staging sold-out concerts at some of the world’s most prestigious venues and further expanding the global reach of Afrobeats.
The latest Chartmasters ranking adds to Burna Boy’s growing list of international achievements and further underscores his commercial influence on the global music industry.
