The Federal Government has announced that repair work on the damaged expansion joints on the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway will commence on September 8.

A statement by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, on Sunday noted that the development was in line with the Federal Ministry of Works’ earlier announcement.

The project, which was earlier scheduled to commence in August 2026, was suspended for a traffic review following public outcry over the short notice and the need for effective traffic management.

The two-week rehabilitation project, directed by the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, involves replacing deteriorating expansion joints to improve road safety, structural integrity, and long-term traffic flow along the busy corridor.

The project is expected to run through September 22, 2026.

The Lagos State Government advised motorists travelling along the corridor to plan their journeys ahead.

To minimise the impact on traffic, the state government explained that one half of the affected section would be closed at a time, while motorists would share the other open half interchangeably.

The government appealed to motorists to exercise patience and cooperate with traffic managers to ensure the rehabilitation is completed within the scheduled two weeks.
