Surprise Peace Mission: Datti Baba-Ahmed Joins Labour Factional Talks
Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, made a surprise appearance at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Julius Abure-led faction in Abuja on Monday, offering to serve as a peacemaker.
The Labour Party has been in crisis, split between factions led by Julius Abure and Nenadi Usman. Most elected officials, including Governor Alex Otti, presidential candidate Peter Obi, and Baba-Ahmed himself, have been associated with the Usman-led faction.
Speaking at the meeting, Baba-Ahmed said, “I am here as a peacemaker and to reconcile divergent opinions.” He reaffirmed his loyalty to the Labour Party while confirming his attendance at opposition coalition meetings, which he described as moral obligations to national dialogue.
The NEC welcomed Baba-Ahmed’s gesture and commended his efforts to foster unity within the party.
